According to CoinWorld, Sam Bankman-Fried lost his appeal to overturn his 2023 fraud conviction and 25-year prison sentence, leaving the former FTX CEO with fewer legal options. Three judges on the U.S. Second Circuit Court of Appeals unanimously rejected Bankman-Fried's challenge, upholding the verdict related to the collapse of the FTX cryptocurrency exchange. Judge Barrington Parker stated that the evidence presented by the prosecution was "strong," supporting the jury's verdict. The verdict stated that although Bankman-Fried publicly assured clients, investors, and regulators of the safety of client assets, he simultaneously used FTX funds for personal expenses, political donations, investments, and real estate purchases. Prosecutors accused Bankman-Fried of transferring client funds from FTX to Alameda Research, a crypto trading firm he founded, calling the scheme an "epic fraud." Bankman-Fried was convicted by a jury in 2023 on seven counts, including fraud and conspiracy, with prosecutors alleging that approximately $8 billion in client funds were misappropriated. Although his appeal has now been rejected, Bankman-Fried is still seeking leniency through another channel while continuing to claim his innocence.
