The Sui mainnet experienced another outage several hours after resuming operation. The project team stated on the X platform that network activity may be suspended and the engineering team is investigating the issue, bringing the mainnet's stability back into focus.

The previous malfunction lasted nearly 6 hours.

According to Sui's public status page, an earlier outage lasted 5 hours and 55 minutes and was marked as a major interruption affecting mainnet settlement. Officials previously stated that the issue was related to a software defect in the validator infrastructure.

Sui stated that the issue occurred in version 1.72, specifically a crash defect in the gas billing logic. The status page timeline shows that the team discovered the anomaly shortly after 7:00 AM Pacific Time on May 28th, and identified the source of the problem approximately 20 minutes later.

Fix dependency validator collaborative upgrade

Around 12:40 PM Pacific Time that day, the patch was started being pushed to validators. Sui later stated that network activity resumed after more than two-thirds of the staking weights had been upgraded, meaning that the restoration of mainnet consensus relied on validators collaborating to complete the software update.

The team stated at the time that they would continue to monitor for other issues after the network reboot. However, several hours after the restoration, the mainnet experienced another outage, drawing further attention to the upgrade release and fault recovery process.

RPC nodes remain available

Infrastructure data disclosed during the incident also showed that the primary impact was on the validator service, rather than public RPC access. Sui's operational status dashboard showed a major failure in the validator service, but public RPC nodes still showed 100% online during the same period.

This means that users and applications may still be able to connect to public network interfaces, but transaction settlement and validator consensus have been affected. Sui stated that a full incident recap will be released in the coming days.
