Amazon has added an AI-powered custom product feature to its shopping app, allowing users to generate designs based on prompts and place orders for items such as clothing and water bottles.

Amazon launched a new feature on Monday that allows users to design customized products using AI. This feature integrates with Alexa for Shopping, allowing users to generate designs directly within the shopping app and then order physical products to be made.

Which products are supported?

This service integrates with Amazon's Merch on Demand printing business. Products that can be printed include T-shirts, hoodies, long-sleeved shirts, polo shirts, sweatshirts, vests, jerseys, as well as water bottles and insulated cups.

After users input their ideas, the system generates a design draft. Amazon then handles production and shipping, fulfilling the orders via Prime Logistics. The company states that this feature is currently only available in the United States, and users only pay for the product itself.

How to use

In the Amazon Shopping app, users can click the Alexa icon in the bottom right corner or enter "customize" in the search bar to access the relevant page. Users can then describe their needs in text and further modify the generated results.

The generated designs can be shared with friends or family, allowing multiple people to add the same item to their respective shopping carts. Amazon hopes this will lower the barrier to entry for customized products, enabling consumers without design experience to place orders directly.
