Anthropic has released its new generation of publicly available models, Opus 4.8, along with a preview of a new feature called "Dynamic Workflow." This new version comes just 41 days after the release of Opus 4.7, demonstrating a significantly faster update pace and highlighting the intensifying competition among major model manufacturers in product iteration.

An upgrade is completed in 41 days.

The Opus 4.8 is Anthropic's most advanced publicly available model to date, priced the same as the previous generation Opus version. This upgrade comes at a shorter interval compared to previous models. In contrast, Anthropic's recent Sonnet and Haiku series have been updated approximately 3 months and 7 months respectively.

During this timeframe, OpenAI released an update to Codex, and Google also released a new version of Gemini Flash. With increased external competition, Anthropic needs to respond to the market with new products more quickly.

Emphasizing the reduction of unfounded conclusions

According to Anthropic, Opus 4.8 still prioritizes leading benchmark performance, but the more significant change is how the model handles erroneous or uncertain data. The company stated in its release notes that early testers found Opus 4.8 to be more proactive in identifying uncertainties and to make fewer unfounded judgments.

Bridgewater Associates also mentioned in user reviews that the new version is more proactive in pointing out problems in the analysis inputs and outputs, problems that users used to have to discover themselves.

Dynamic Workflow Preview

Alongside the new model, Dynamic Workflows, currently in research preview, was also released. This system is primarily designed for executing more complex tasks, aiming to help large models like Opus schedule hundreds of parallel sub-agents to complete large-scale, multi-step tasks.

Anthropic cited an example: Claude Code, when used with Opus 4.8, can complete migration tasks covering hundreds of thousands of lines of code around the existing testing system, forming a more complete process from startup to merging.

Mythos is not yet fully open.

Anthropic has not yet officially released a higher-level Mythos model. This model, after a brief preview last month, raised cybersecurity concerns.

However, the company stated during the Opus 4.8 release that related security measures are being accelerated, and the Mythos-level model is expected to be available to more customers in the coming weeks.
