Apple updated its App Store ecosystem data ahead of WWDC. The company disclosed that the platform facilitated over $1.4 trillion in developer spending and sales in 2025, up from $1.3 trillion reported in the same period last year. Apple used this to emphasize that the commercial scale generated by the App Store comes not only from in-app digital transactions.

90% of transactions did not pay Apple a commission.

The company stated that approximately 90% of these $1.4 trillion transactions did not involve commission payments to Apple. According to Apple, this portion primarily stemmed from consumption of physical goods and services driven by in-app and out-of-app purchases, rather than digital content purchases.

Breaking it down, of the total in 2025, approximately $1.1 trillion will come from physical goods and services, while approximately $149 billion will come from digital goods-related bills and sales. The latter is typically subject to a 15% to 30% commission rate, depending on the type of transaction and the size of the developer. This represents continued growth compared to the $131 billion reported in the previous year.

The platform has over 850 million weekly active users.

Apple also stated that by 2025, the App Store will have over 850 million weekly users in 175 countries and regions. This data continues Apple's recent statements regarding platform scale and developer revenue potential, and represents a concentrated demonstration of its platform value against the backdrop of ongoing disputes over regulation and commission rates.

AI applications are growing faster than other leading products.

Apple specifically mentioned AI applications in this disclosure. The company stated that by 2025, 40 of the top 100 apps will have consumer-facing AI features, and these apps will see faster revenue growth than other leading apps.

This statement has also drawn market attention to Apple's AI plans for next week's WWDC. There have been previous rumors that Apple may further open up application capabilities related to AI agents, update Siri, and integrate more AI features into the operating system.

Business continues to expand in China, the United States and Europe

According to data disclosed by Apple, over the past six years, App Store-driven bills and sales in China have more than doubled; in the US and Europe, they have more than tripled during the same period. Apple points out that the main source of growth remains physical service scenarios such as retail, food delivery, ride-hailing, and travel, rather than solely relying on digital content consumption.

Additional information:TechCrunch noted in its report that Apple's disclosure was intended to illustrate that the commission it earns from in-app purchases of digital goods only accounts for a portion of the total transaction volume on its platform.
