In four months, WLFI has spent over $115 million (in WLFI form) on expanding the market for USD1. TL;DR (and this is very important): Revolving finance is making sense again in a few specific market segments due to a new mechanism that can continuously compress lending rates (relative to demand). While some argue that lower tiers are generally superior to leveraged revolving finance, there is one meta-mechanism that has truly reignited my interest in revolving finance. If you're not a DeFi enthusiast, you probably haven't heard of this. In short, teams like @fraxfinance and @Paxos offer rebates equivalent to TBILL yields to institutional LPs who hold or lend frxUSD or USDG. This means that large LPs can hold assets like PYUSD, USDG, and frxUSD that don't generate yield and regularly receive 3-4% returns. Furthermore, they can put these assets on the money market to earn a base yield of 3-4%, plus other interest rates. The key is that because these rates are paid to these lenders through over-the-counter transactions, borrowers don't have to pay additional treasury bond yields as they would when borrowing yield-bearing stablecoins. Therefore, borrowers might only pay 4% interest, while collateral holders could earn 5-7%, which is very attractive to institutions looking to hold stablecoins like USDG, PYUSD, or frxUSD. This means borrowers receive lower interest rates because lenders are no longer entirely reliant on interest rates for compensation. Of course, this only applies to specific markets, but I'm quite confident that this mechanism will drive a dramatic increase in Total Value Locked (TVL) in the near future.
