According to Business Insider,Meta's Super Intelligence division is building a dedicated hardware team and recruiting a senior engineer to lead it, a move that is an important step in Meta's deep involvement in the field of AI hardware devices.

Meta's Reality Labs division is known for its smart glasses and virtual reality headsets. This new initiative falls under Meta's Super Intelligence Lab (MSL). This high-profile AI division was announced last year. This indicates that Meta is planning to launch other types of AI devices.

According to media reports citing sources familiar with the matter, this plan had not been previously reported. Some Reality Labs engineers have already moved to MSL to prototype AI department software on Reality Labs' hardware, and the two departments are collaborating closely.Meta is recruiting Rui Xu to head MSL hardware. Rui Xu previously led the hardware business of AI agent startup Dreamer, whose founding team was acquired by Meta last month.

According to The Information, prior to joining Dreamer, Rui Xu served as COO of robotics startup K-Scale, which shut down last year. Nat Friedman, head of product and application research at MSL, had invested in K-Scale through his co-founded AI Grant program.

Currently, tech giants like OpenAI are racing to create a truly AI-centric personal device, rather than simply a smartphone replacement.

In February of this year, Alexandr Wang, head of MSL, stated on a podcast that Meta hopes to break through the boundaries of mobile phones and move towards an era where everyone has a personalized AI agent—these agents will be ubiquitous in a constellation-like array of devices around users:

You'll want your personal AI agent to be with you in multiple ways; it will always be online, seeing what you see and hearing what you hear. In the coming months, you'll witness us moving forward at an astonishing pace.

Oracle Dubai building hit by shrapnel
The Dubai Media Office confirmed that Oracle's office building in Dubai Internet City was hit by debris from an air defense system, but there were no casualties. Previously, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard had designated 18 US technology companies, including Oracle, as "legitimate targets" and launched an attack on AWS's data center in the Middle East in early March.

US intelligence agencies assess that the Strait of Hormuz is unlikely to be "opened up" in the short term.
A recent US intelligence assessment warns that Iran will not easily relinquish its key bargaining chip, the Strait of Hormuz. A former CIA director stated bluntly that Tehran understands that controlling the Strait is "more powerful than nuclear weapons," making negotiations extremely difficult. Furthermore, a US military effort to force access would be costly, and there is a significant discrepancy between Trump's optimistic statements and intelligence conclusions.

30-year-old legal protection expires! Meta and Google in crisis
Tech giants are facing unprecedented challenges under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, which they have relied on for 30 years. Meta and Google's YouTube recently lost consecutive lawsuits, with total damages amounting to approximately $400 million. Plaintiffs' lawyers systematically circumvented platform immunity by focusing on product design flaws. As AI-generated content and algorithmic recommendations become more widespread, the nature of the legal risks is changing, and related cases may ultimately end up in the U.S. Supreme Court.
